Importing packaging from India, explained.

One question per guide, answered in the first paragraph, then the detail — what to specify, what to ask for, and where it sits in the catalogue. RSS feed.

  • How to buy glass perfume bottles from India

Specify four things: the bottle (by reference code, drawing or sample), its neck finish, the pump or cap that goes on it, and your quantity and destination port. With those, an exporter in Mumbai can quote FOB or CIF pricing, the minimum order quantity and the lead time — Letap usually replies within two working days.

  • What is a neck finish, and how do you match a cap to a bottle?

A neck finish is the shaped top of a bottle or jar — its diameter, its thread or lugs, and its sealing surface — and it is what a cap or pump has to fit. Match a closure by quoting the finish (for example “63 mm lug” or “FEA 15”), not the bottle's volume: two bottles of the same size can have different necks, and one neck can take several closures.

  • FOB or CIF: which should you ask for when importing packaging from India?

Ask for FOB if you have a freight forwarder who already ships for you, and CIF if you want one price that includes sea freight to your port. Under both Incoterms the risk passes to you once the goods are loaded on board at the Indian port; the difference is who books and pays for the sea freight and the insurance.
